Celebrating Electrical Firsts

It’s your captain speaking…

26 July 2022

Thank you to all the students, teachers and Gateway coordinators who attended and participated in our WorldSkills New Zealand Electrical interschool competitions over May and June.

We had 23 teams from 17 schools compete in “Lebowski’s challenge” applying their skills to wiring, Health & Safety, time trials, aptitude tests and more.

We received tremendous feedback from industry, employers and our team of volunteers who enjoyed sharing their knowledge of the sector, sharing the competition experience, and discussing the realities of electrical careers with students and staff.

Thank you all for your part in bringing these events to life. Our congratulations goes out to all placegetters, with special mention to the following regional winners:

  • Joshua Smith and Zac Doherty, St John’s College (Hamilton competition)
  • Liam Bruce and Jayden Wilson, Hasting Boys’ High School (Napier competition)
  • Joshua Gallagher from Roncalli College (Timaru competition)
  • Lucas Powell and Sophie Davidson, Riccarton High School (Christchurch competition)
  • Matthew Gray and Marcus Anderson, Bayfield High School (Dunedin competition)
  • Casey Osborne and Izzy Jenkins, Catlins Area School (Invercargill competition)
