World Skills International

WorldSkillsNZ is the only NZ organisation officially affiliated with the IVTO (International Vocational Training Organisation) who manage the WorldSkills Competition.
The New Zealand WorldSkills team is selected after the biennial WorldSkills National Finals by our Technical Committee. Held every two years, the International WorldSkills Finals act as an International audit of skill standards in over 40 countries. The worldwide demand for well-trained and committed young people has never been higher. New jobs are being created in all branches of industry and commerce. There will be intense competition in the years ahead to recruit young people to take New Zealand through the twenty first century and maintain a level of international competitiveness.
It is expected that the coveted medals, the honour of representing their country and the comradeship of international competition, will attract up to 600 competitors from all around the world.

How do I get selected for the NZ WorldSkills Team?
Our Technical Committee selects our WorldSkills team from the winners of the previous WorldSkills National Finals. Team members are selected because they meet the high performance standards and criteria needed to compete at a world level. There is also an age restriction to compete at the WorldSkills Competition, each competitor has to be between 18and 22 years.

Who else makes up the NZWorldSkills Team?
Each competitor has a mentor/trainer who will guide them through their pre-WorldSkills Competition training programme and accompany them to the competition. These trainers are WorldSkills National Skill Experts and will also be part of the international judging team at the WorldSkills Competition. Each judge marks competitors from a different country. The Team also consists of a Technical Delegate, Official Delegate, Team Leader and Official Observers.
