The training camp held 24-27 February 2017 was a success. Competitors, skill experts, and the WorldSkills New Zealand leadership worked together as one team working towards one goal.
This was a change for everyone to get to know each other and build a team culture. It was also an opportunity to update everyone on the WorldSkills vision for the future, and provide information about 2017 events, including preparations for Abu Dhabi.
Competitors were given the opportunity to get out of their comfort zones and try out and appreciate other trade skills. They also challenged themselves mentally, discovered and acknowledge their personality strengths and weaknesses (and how to manage them). Over the weekend, competitors participated in team building activities, as well.
Skill experts took part in the WorldSkills International mandatory training for their role, which includes their preparedness and those of their respective competitors for the international competition in Abu Dhabi. They also got to know the competitors a little better, and had the opportunity to discuss their training plans with them.
The camp was held a the Army Bay in Whangapaparoa Peninsula, Auckland.
