Competition Schedule
  • Day 1 (Wednesday) 09.00 - 17:00 = 8 hrs
  • Day 2 (Thursday) 10.00 - 19:00 = 9 hrs
  • Day 3 (Friday) 09.00 - 18:00 = 9 hrs
  • Day 4 (Saturday) 09.00 - 14:00 = 5 hrs
  • Thursday late finish allows city workers the opportunity to visit after work while the Saturday competition finishes at 2pm for most skill categories providing more time for marking.
  • The Closing Ceremony on Sunday 6 September is at Stampede Park Calgary Stampede Corral with a 7,000 capacity.
Promotion of the competition
    • The target age for school visitors to the event is age 14. The indication is that there will be 100,000 14 year olds visiting the competition over the four days.
    • Four celebrities are promoting the competition:
    • Julie Payette – Canadian Astronaut; Mike Holmes from Holmes on Homes TV show (a renovations home show shown in 20 countries) His motto is “do it right the first time”; David Adgie, Canadian Celebrity Chef “Iron Chef”, and Sir Ken Robinson, British educator (creativity expert). He will be talking to teachers in Canada in June to get them enthusiastic and committed to bringing their students to the competition.
    • The Organising Committee have a roadshow truck and trailer that has clocked up 20,000 km in the last three months visiting schools in the Alberta area creating interest in the competitions.
    • Key people will be speaking at Teachers’ Conventions, Conventions / Congresses etc.
    • There will be a two minute orientation to schools prior to entering the competitions which will process 5,000 students per hour per tent.
    • Students will be given color coded RFI (radio frequency locators) wrist bands which will then track where they go and how they spend their time at the competition venue. There will be an Ambassador Kiosk at the approximately 25 skill categories with capacity for 30 students to hear a 4 minute packaged program from someone with experience in that skill category. The package includes explanation of the test project as well as training and career opportunities.
    • There will be a large media presence at this competition including photographers, video photographers and youth reporters.
    • Participants can win a Premiere Experience and have a guided tour through the competition.
