To compete in national competitions, competitors are expected to train at least 20 hours after regional or industry-led competitions.
Tool Blacks team members are expected to train at least 40 hours prior to the WorldSkills international competition.
Mentors and/or skills managers work with employers of competitors to help facilitate part of the training required to be covered on-the-job.
WorldSkills New Zealand organises training camps for the Tool Blacks team, held on a weekend, twice prior to an international competition.
